The Richness of Reading and a Lost Cat Comes Home

I love starting a new book. The more I write, the more I love to read, and vice versa. I have never enjoyed the richness of words and language so much.
Yesterday I started reading People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks. The characters are real, the history is alive, the theme is clear but discreetly presented. Our history as a human race, and the artifacts that are part of it, are worth preserving. Killing individuals and killing a culture are one and the same, and both are wrong. When I see this in a sentence, I know it's true. When I read it in a story, I feel it.

My daughter's cat fell or jumped from a second story window and was gone for four days and three nights. Today was the day one of her friends was going to contact a psychic she knows. Last night Woody came home. Healthy, clean, same old Woody -- just hungry. Sometimes there are happy endings.
